Lead has two main meanings. It is a metal.
He sharpened his lead pencil.
Or it is the present tense of the verb ‘to lead’.
He leads the company.
led
Led is the past tense of the verb ‘to lead’.
She led them to safety.
What causes the confusion?
Confusion usually arises between lead and led when it is used as a verb. Just ask yourself whether the action is present or past tense.
