Reader’s question: Are both anymore and any more correct depending on the context? For example:
I don’t buy books anymore because I don’t need any more books.
Answer: I agree with your interpretation, but some writers use theses words interchangeably.
Anymore is an adverb referring to time, meaning ‘any longer’, ‘still’, ‘from now on’.
I don’t need help with grammar anymore.
I don’t have time to read books anymore.
Any more refers to quantity and means ‘an indefinite quantity’ or ‘small amount’.
I couldn’t eat any more food on Christmas Day.
Do you want any more Christmas pudding?
I don’t want any more nasty surprises this year.
