Reader’s question: A reader emailed me asking about the difference between learned and learnt as the past tense of the verb ‘to learn’

Answer: According to the Macquarie Dictionary, both are acceptable, but I think learned is preferable because it is a more regular verb ending. Over time, many irregular endings tend to become regular.
